Aqua Dumbbells Exercises

Aqua dumbbells are like gym dumbbells except they are made of foam or plastic and they use water as a medium for resistance. There are two types of aqua dumbbells resistance: One is the surface area (those are usually the plastic ones) and the other is the flotation force (like the foam made ones) Moreover, both of these types of aqua dumbbells allow us to control the resistance by increasing/decreasing the speed or the range of motion of your movement. Aqua dumbbells are not only used to work your upper body muscles. But to support your body while doing lower body workout too.

Hammer Curls in the Pool

Aqua Dumbbells Hammer Curls

This is an easy to do arm exercise. It's done while standing in the shallow end. So no special skills are required. Just grab a pair of aqua dumbbells and start the exercise.

How to Perform

Starting Position:
Stand in shallow water up to your chest level. Hold a pair of aqua dumbbells in your hands. Extend your arms by your sides with your palms facing down. Keep your shoulders relaxed and chest up.

Action:
Keeping your arms close to your body, bend your elbows, bringing the dumbbells toward the top of your shoulders. Straighten your arms and lower the dumbbells back to the starting position. Exert force as you extend your arms.

Breathing:
Breathe in as you curl your arms, and breathe out as you lower them.

Muscles Worked

These aqua dumbbell curls target your triceps. Forearm muscles assist in keeping the wrist in place. This exercise also works the core, since your body needs to maintain balance throughout the motion.

Benefits

This is an excellent triceps exercise. That is because it allows you to isolate the triceps. By keeping your elbows locked, muscles that assist the movement work with very little effort. This is a great exercise to add to your workout if you are looking to add some size to your triceps. In addition, Hammer Curls doesn't involve jumping or any type of bouncing motion, which means it is safe for those who are prone to injuries.

Variations

1 Use your hands instead of dumbbells

2. Use a noodle.

3. Perform deeper in a lunge position.

4. Alternate your arms.

5. Perform faster with smaller movements.
