is this a scientific fact or just a stereotype?
Yes Black People Can Swim
Black people are not inherently less able to swim than any other ethnic group. Black people are just as capable of swimming, water skiing, scuba diving, and many other water-related sports as everyone else. Besides, there are many professional black swimmers, some who are even world-class like Cullen Jones.
The ability to swim is not based on race, ethnicity, or skin color, but rather on natural talent and practice. However, because there are relatively fewer black swimmers, it appears to some people that black people are unable to swim.
WHERE DID THAT IDEA COME FROM?
The reason why there are less black swimmers than white has nothing to do with their skin color but rather due to cultural and social factors. For example, swimming is not a popular activity in many of the predominantly black communities in USA. As a result, many young people from these areas have no exposure to swimming, which results in them not knowing how to swim or even being afraid of water. The same can be said for those who live in poorer countries where there is no public access to swimming pools. And I am not saying this exclusively about African countries, but all around the globe.
let me tell you my experience
As someone who has been teaching swimming in multiple countries for over 20 years, I have never seen any difference in people's ability to learn to swim due to their skin color or ethnicity. I noticed that most people who don't know how to swim come from countries where swimming is not very popular. Like the Balkan for example, where white people are the vast majority. Or the Middle East and Armenia for that matter. On the other hand, I have seen that almost everyone from South Africa can swim very good, regardless of their skin color. In fact, I found age to be the factor that makes the biggest difference. Younger people, even teenagers, can learn to swim better than most adults. The older you get, the harder it becomes to learn how to swim.
