This shallow-end exercise is done with pool stairs, alternately with aqua steppers. It aims at strengthening your leg muscles and at improving your balance.
With your lower body supported in the water all the time, you can easily and safely strengthen your legs. You will only be working against your upper body's weight, and against water resistance.
Stand in the shallow-end with your legs together, feet hip width apart, and put both your hands on your waist. Keep your back always straight
Step forward on the stairs with one leg, then come up and bring your legs together. Bend your knee and step back with the same leg, followed by the other leg until you return to the starting position. Switch legs and repeat.
Note: You can skip steps if the stairs are too low, in order to create a more challenging exercise.
Inhale as you step back and exhale with each step forward.
Feel your quadriceps and calves as you step.
